Vessel Manager (Tankers)

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Vessel Manager (Tankers) for one of our established global shipowner’s clients. The Vessel Manager will be responsible for the technical management of an assigned tanker fleet, ensuring safe, compliant and cost-effective vessel operations. This role will suit a technically strong marine engineer who enjoys direct ship-shore engagement, dry-docking and fleet reliability work. The role is based in Singapore.

The ideal candidate would have at least 2 years of shore-based technical management experience with tankers with established ship owners/ managers. He/she would have strong understanding of vessel technical operations, PMS, HSEQ, class / statutory requirements and tanker operational risks.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the technical management of assigned tanker vessels, ensuring safe and reliable operations in line with company SMS, class, flag, statutory and industry requirements.
  • Monitor vessel condition, planned maintenance, defects, performance and operational reports; follow up with shipboard teams to close technical matters in a timely manner.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to Masters, Chief Engineers and vessel teams, including troubleshooting, repairs and coordination with OEMs / third-party service providers.
  • Plan, control and review vessel OPEX / CAPEX, spares, stores, lubricants and consumables to support safe operations while maintaining budget discipline.
  • Work closely with commercial / operations teams to support voyage and charter requirements, reduce off-hire exposure and maintain vessel availability.
  • Track class, statutory, trading certificates, surveys, audits and inspection requirements; ensure vessels are prepared for PSC, vetting, class and internal / external audits.
  • Plan and manage dry-docking / repair projects, including work scope preparation, budgeting, vendor coordination, progress tracking and variance reporting.
  • Conduct vessel visits and inspections when required to assess vessel condition, engage ship staff and drive follow-up actions.
  • Coach and guide senior shipboard personnel to strengthen technical standards, ship-shore communication and operational discipline.
  • Prepare regular updates for Fleet Management on vessel condition, budget status, outstanding technical issues and action plans.

Requirements

  • Class 1 Marine Engineer CoC / Chief Engineer background preferred.
  • At least 2 years of shore-based technical management experience with tankers.
  • Minimum 8 years of sea-going experience, preferably on tanker vessels.
  • Good analytical, problem-solving, project management and budget control skills.
  • Confident communicator who can work effectively with vessel teams, internal & external stakeholders.
  • Comfortable with vessel visits and travel when required
