Vessel Manager (Tankers)

We are looking for an experienced Vessel Manager (Oil Tanker) for a global shipping client that is based in Singapore. The Vessel Manager will be responsible to oversee the maintenance, operation, and technical aspects of his/her assigned fleet of tanker vessels. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience managing tanker vessels and a proven track record dry dockings and have good project management and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities:

Safety and Operational Management:

  • Uphold safety and environmental protection as fundamental values in all operational decisions and actions.
  • Anticipate and drive assigned vessel operational requirements, encompassing dry-dock and major repairs, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, operational expenditure, and survey/audit compliance (both internal and external).
  • Develop and oversee vessel budgets while maintaining a comprehensive view of budget utilization.
  • Collaborate with Marine HR Resources to endorse appropriate manning appointments on assigned vessels.

Technical Support and Guidance:

  • Provide comprehensive technical and operational support to assigned vessels.
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective supply of stores and spares by arranging service engineers’ and contractors’ attendance and consulting manufacturers as required.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Coach and develop Masters, Chief Engineers, and direct reports in alignment with management objectives.
  • Participate in interviews, recommend new hires and promotions, fostering a high-performance team culture.

Operations and Compliance Oversight:

  • Regularly interact with ship staff to monitor defects, inspections, and audits.
  • Oversee all dry-dock activities, including yard supervision and cost analysis.
  • Prepare vessels for vetting and port state inspections, ensuring compliance and readiness.

Coordination and Reporting:

  • Act as the primary contact for commercial and voyage coordination, reporting technical and operational issues while driving improvements in purchasing performance.
  • Ensure statutory and class certifications remain valid and compliant with industry standards.
  • Conduct regular risk reviews for vessel operations and initiate appropriate actions.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Conduct regular vessel visits and reviews to assess operational and mechanical performance.
  • Provide Senior Management with comprehensive vessel condition reports.
  • Monitor vetting inspections, internal/external audits, and ensure timely closure of findings.

Operational Efficiency and Safety Assurance:

  • Monitor vessel survey cycles, planned maintenance, fuel consumption, and voyage analysis to ensure safety, economics, and customer satisfaction.
  • Investigate incidents and review permits for work on vessels to ensure safety protocols.
  • Provide key learnings following completion of dry-docking and major repairs of assigned vessels.

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years of shore-based experience as Technical Superintendent/ Vessel Manager in Ship Owners/ Ship Managers managing Tanker fleet.
  • Having relevant sea-going work experience as Chief Engineer/Marine Engineer on tankers will be an advantage.
  • Experience in dry-docking is desirable.
  • Possess good problem solving and time management skills.
  • Independent and resourceful. Able to work under pressure to meet deadline.
  • Demonstrates good teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills.
