We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Vessel Manager to be based in Hong Kong for a reputable global ship manager. As a Vessel manager, you will provide operation management services to several ships under charge to ensure they run in a safe manner as required and the running costs for all the vessels are within the budget allocated by the ship owners.
The ideal candidate would have sailed as Chief Engineer on vessels with Dual Fuel engines and have at least 2-3 years of shore-based experience managing vessels independently with established ship owners/ ship managers, a great communicator and demonstrated good decision making and stakeholder management skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute repair and dry‑docking programmes, covering routine maintenance and major repairs.
- Monitor vessel performance and oversee the Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
- Perform three scheduled inspections per year for each vessel under your charge and ensure timely resolution of any findings.
- Prepare and manage survey cycles and statutory survey requirements, ensuring full compliance with class and flag regulations.
- Control procurement, delivery and inventory of spare parts and stores for the fleet.
- Prepare operating budgets for fleet manager/director review, track actual spend against budget throughout the year, and report variances.
- Escalate promptly if projected costs are expected to exceed the approved budget.
- Support pre‑purchase / pre‑takeover third‑party inspections and deliver inspection reports to owners on request.
Requirements:
- Mandatory: Chief Engineer’s Certificate of Competency with substantial sailing time as Chief Engineer on vessels with Dual Fuel engines is required.
- Proven shore-based experience as Vessel Manager in ship owners/ ship managers managing bulk carriers. Other sea-going vessel experience can be considered.
- Good people management, negotiation and communication skills.
- Resourceful and good in troubleshooting, dry docking and vessel repairs.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Excellent resource planning and execution and good stakeholders management skills
