Technical Stowage Planner (Based in Shanghai)

We are looking for an experienced and self-driven Technical Stowage Planner for one of our global shipping clients. The Technical Stowage Planner is responsible for planning and optimizing the loading, stowage, and unloading of cargo on breakbulk vessels – ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of cargo while maximizing the vessel’s capacity and maintaining stability. The ideal candidate would have at least 2 years of relevant experience within the heavy lift transport planning.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to cargo handling and stowage-related inquiries promptly, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
  • Review and verify stowage plans to ensure safety parameters are maintained throughout the voyage.
  • Prepare calculations to support stowage plans, assisting Masters, operators, and Port Captains with engineering principles as needed.
  • Focus on cost-effective solutions that balance cargo care, productivity, and safety.
  • Develop lifting calculations, method statements, and equipment requirements for project cargo or tender proposals, ensuring clear communication and understanding.
  • Create detailed lashing plans with supporting calculations for securing cargo.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between local operations staff and regional or head office for engineering-related stowage and cargo handling matters, requiring higher-level approval.
  • Provide guidance and support to local operational teams, ensuring adherence to company procedures and escalating issues as necessary.
  • Propose designs for cargo handling equipment to enhance safety and productivity.

Requirements:

  • Professional qualification in engineering with expertise in structural strength, static and dynamic forces, or naval architecture.
  • Experience in heavy lift transport planning or a related field, such as port operations or heavy lift crane operations.
  • Familiarity with ship design is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar software will be an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of international cargo handling and stowage regulations, including ILO152.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Methodical and organized approach to work.
