We are looking for an experienced and self-driven Marine Superintendent to join an established international ship owning / ship management organization. The role will be part of the Safety Team and will be responsible for supporting the safe, compliant, and efficient operations of assigned chemical tanker vessels. The ideal candidate would have good experience on vessel’s compliance, marine safety, charterers’ inspections, cargo operations, tank cleaning, crew training, and emergency preparedness matters.
Key Responsibilities
Marine Safety, Compliance & Vessel Assurance
- Maintain valid ISM, ISPS, and MLC documentation and certification requirements for assigned vessels, including internal audits, external audits, and related compliance records.
- Attend vessels as required for audits, inspections, operational reviews, and follow-up matters, and report key findings to management.
- Monitor office and shipboard marine, safety, environmental, and quality matters, including reported deficiencies, and provide guidance to the Master and vessel team on corrective actions.
- Support the implementation and delivery of environmental and quality policies to Masters, officers, and crew through education, training, and onboard engagement.
- Review vessel reports, including SQC, training records, drills, risk assessments, management of change, permit-to-work reports, critical operations reports, and other safety-related submissions.
- Provide feedback and guidance to Masters where required to support safe operations and continuous improvement onboard assigned vessels.
Charterers’ Inspections, Vessel Records & Compliance Follow-Up
- Ensure all charterers’ inspections remain valid and up to date for assigned vessels, including SIRE, CDI, non-SIRE, and terminal inspections.
- Prepare responses to third-party inspection observations, Port State Control deficiencies, audit findings, and non-conformities, and follow up until satisfactory closure.
- Respond promptly and accurately to charterers’ queries, questionnaires, and vessel-related requests.
- Maintain and update assigned vessels’ HVPQ, Q88, crew matrix, and other vetting-related documentation with support from the safety executives.
- Work closely with vessel teams to ensure readiness for inspections, audits, and charterers’ requirements.
Cargo Operations & Tank Cleaning Support
- Provide marine and operational support to Masters and crew in safely conducting cargo operations and tank cleaning.
- Review cargo operation plans and tank cleaning plans where required, and provide technical advice to the Master and vessel team.
- Ensure vessels comply with charterers’ voyage orders and cargo custody requirements through the review of relevant vessel reports.
- Oversee cargo-related matters where required, including coordination with agents, terminal representatives, receivers, shippers, and local or national authorities.
- Act as the commercial operator’s interface on cargo, marine, and operational matters when required.
Crew Training, Incident Management & Emergency Response
- Support onboard crew training, waiting crew training, and refresher training where required.
- Assist in the performance appraisal of senior officers for assigned vessels.
- Contribute to the investigation of incidents, accidents, non-conformity reports, and near-miss reports to identify direct and root causes.
- Monitor corrective and preventive actions arising from incidents, inspections, audits, and vessel reports.
- Act as a member of the Emergency Response Team during emergencies.
- Assist the Designated Person Ashore when required.
Requirements
- Certificate of Competency Class 1 as Deck Officer.
- At least 1 year of sailing experience as Master on tankers, preferably chemical tankers; OR
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Marine Superintendent or in related superintendence activities.
- Good understanding of ISM, ISPS, MLC, SIRE, CDI, PSC, terminal inspections, and charterers’ vetting requirements.
- Familiar with vessel audits, inspection follow-up, non-conformity management, incident investigation, and emergency response procedures.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with Masters, crew, charterers, inspectors, terminals, agents, and internal stakeholders.
- Hands-on, proactive, and detail-oriented, with strong follow-up and problem-solving skills.
- Able to travel and attend vessels when required.
