Release Train Engineer

We are looking for an experienced and self-driven Release Train Engineer for a global shipping client. This key role involves overseeing and coordinating various ongoing projects and applications, ensuring that project milestones are met, and business requirements are satisfied. The individual will engage with various stakeholders and recommend best practices based on business needs.

The ideal candidate would have at least 5 years of experience in a Release Train Engineer role or related positions such as Agile Coach, Scrum Master, Project Manager, or Product Owner. Having work experience in industries such as shipping, logistics, supply chain, or technology will be an advantage.

Responsibilities

Agile Leadership

  • Facilitate and lead cross-functional ceremonies to address and resolve obstacles, monitor dependencies, and ensure alignment with overall Program Increment (PI) goals, thereby maximizing value delivery and strategic goal alignment.
  • Conduct regular meetings with Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Architecture leadership, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth Agile project operations.
  • Promote collaboration between teams and System and Solution Architects/Engineering.
  • Advocate Agile and SAFe principles, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration within and across teams.

Planning & Coordination

  • Organize and lead Program Increment (PI) Planning sessions to align teams on priorities, dependencies, and objectives for each increment.
  • Work with Product Owners to prioritize and refine the Program Backlog, ensuring features and user stories are well-defined and ready for execution (meeting the Definition of Ready).
  • Monitor progress and timelines, addressing deviations and adjusting plans as needed to achieve the Definition of Done.

Communication & Reporting

  • Create and maintain communication strategies to keep stakeholders informed about Agile Team progress and overall program status.
  • Provide consistent status updates to leadership, focusing on key milestones, risks, and areas for improvement.
  • Maintain transparency by tracking relevant metrics and reporting on the performance and health of Agile projects.

Problem Resolution

  • Proactively identify and resolve impediments, risks, and dependencies that may affect successful program delivery.
  • Work with teams to develop innovative solutions to challenges, ensuring that the Agile project remains on track.
  • Escalate significant issues to leadership with recommended courses of action.


Continuous Improvement

  • Facilitate Inspect and Adapt workshops at the end of each Program Increment to gather feedback and identify areas for enhancement.
  • Collaborate with teams to implement lessons learned, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and optimize processes within the Agile project.
  • Research and share best practices from global sources to contribute to the evolution of Agile practices within client organizations and Alumni.

Typical Deliverables:

  • A prioritized and groomed Program Backlog for upcoming Program Increments.
  • PI Planning artifacts, including the Program Board, Program Backlog, and team plans.
  • Regular status reports and metrics on the health and performance of the Agile Release Train (ART).
  • Action plans and improvements identified from Inspect and Adapt workshops.
  • Solutions to impediments and dependencies impacting the Agile Project.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT, engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a Release Train Engineer role or related positions such as Agile Coach, Scrum Master, Project Manager, or Product Owner.
  • Preferable experience in industries such as shipping, logistics, supply chain, or technology.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Applications, Data, and Technology architecture, especially CI/CD technologies.
  • Proficient in designing and delivering scaled Agile programs.
  • Proven capability to operate both strategically and tactically, effectively engaging with C-Suite and operational staff.
  • Strong understanding of Agile principles and the ability to articulate the benefits of an Agile operational model.
  • Deep interest in emerging technology trends and practical knowledge of their application to Agile transformation.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, people management, and communication skills with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Recent and relevant Agile certifications (SAFe RTE) preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Teams, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
