Owner Representative (New Building)

April, 2026

Are you a Chief or 2nd Engineer with a passion for seeing a ship built from the first plate of steel to the final sea trial? We are looking an experienced New Building Superintendent (Owner’s Representative) for a leading global shipowner. This is not a passive inspection role. We need a technically authoritative Marine Engineer who can challenge shipyard designs, negotiate firmly with production teams, and unapologetically protect the interests of the owner.

Key Responsibilities:

As the Owner’s primary technical advocate onsite, the goal is to ensure every vessel delivered isn’t just “compliant,” but reliable and maintainable. You will:

  • Design Challenge: Critically review machinery and piping layouts before implementation. If a pump is inaccessible or a lifting path is blocked, you must argue the case for redesign successfully.
  • Strong Negotiation: Manage the high-pressure relationship with Chinese shipyards. You must be able to push back on schedule-driven “shortcuts” and ensure quality is never compromised.
  • Owner’s Advocate: Lead technical and quality meetings. You are expected to strongly argue technical cases to protect the employer’s long-term asset value and operational efficiency.
  • Commissioning & Trials: Direct the technical execution of mooring and sea trials for Main Engines, ensuring performance matches the “Shop Test” (FAT) benchmarks.
  • Technical Governance: Approve inspection plans, NDT strategies, and QC checklists.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2nd Engineer (Unlimited) or Chief Engineer license/experience on conventional vessels (Container, Tanker, or Bulker).
  • You must have successfully managed or been a key part of at least 3 or more New Building projects from keel laying to delivery. Prior experience with container vessel construction will be an advantage.
  • Demonstrated expertise in machinery installation, piping systems, and complex commissioning on conventional vessels. Familiar with shipbuilding sequences, block construction, pre-outfitting and inspection processes.
  • Proved experience managing shipyard relationships in China or Korea, with the ability to maintain quality under schedule pressure.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in Mandarin is a strong plus for shipyard coordination.

We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified. Thank you for your understanding!
