Operations Specialist, Liner

One of our global shipping clients is looking for a proactive and organized Operations Specialist to join their Liner Operations Team. The Operations Specialist will be responsible for efficient management of the vessel operations in port to facilitate a quick and efficient port call.  The ideal candidate would have at least 3 years of practical hands-on experience as operations operator in a liner shipping company or port or terminal operations. Having in-depth knowledge of Port terminal operations, liner sub-functions, stowage planning as well as voyage planning and execution will be an advantage.
 

Responsibilities

  • Accountable to handle all vessels that are in port and provide 24/7 (shift coverage) monitoring function to ensure that terminal performance and company’s productivity targets are being achieved.
  • Able to handle all kind of work emergencies that could arise from planned port working plans, agreed labor and crane allocation plans to the scheduled completion and departure times of the vessels that are in port.
  • Maintain communication with the vessel planner during the port call for mid operation stow plan adjustments including stowage changes to maintain optimal crane splits to deliver fastest dispatch of vessel.
  • Point of contact of the company’s shipping agencies, terminals, vessels operations team and ensure timely operational update and efficient communications between all parties.
  • Maintain and monitor systems relevant to terminal operations, vessel scheduling and port calls, ensuring all systems are updated correctly to reflect in all relevant in-house systems.

Requirements

  • Must have: Knowledgeable towards both general cargo and containerized modes of transport, cargo handling and stevedore and terminal operations across different commodity types and ability to read stowage plans
  • Availability to work night shifts and weekends as required under the expectation of this role.
  • Able to multitask under pressure and agile to embrace new responsibilities and deviation from role scope
  • Highly organised and has a sense of ownership and accountability. 
  • At least 3 years of practical work experience as a vessel operator or in a liner shipping or port or terminal operations type role. Previous roles working in vessel stowage planning will be an advantage.
