Marine Operations Manager (Oil Tanker)

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Marine Operations Manager (Oil Tankers) for one of our global shipowner clients. The Marine Operations Manager will be responsible for the marine assurance, vetting readiness, and navigational standards across an assigned tanker fleet. The ideal candidate would have at least 3 years of similar experience working in shipowner/ management companies and have strong knowledge of OCIMF/SIRE requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Champion HSEQ and ensure marine operations meet company standards and regulatory requirements for the company’s fleet of oil tankers.
  • Provide marine operational guidance to vessels on navigation, cargo operations, mooring and passage planning, and voyage-specific risks.
  • Lead and coordinate vetting readiness for assigned vessels:
    • Plan and manage vetting inspections (e.g., SIRE) in consultation with ship staff and internal stakeholders.
    • Review inspection findings, support corrective actions, and drive vessel/fleet improvement plans to enhance vetting performance.
    • Prepare and submit operator responses/comments in inspection systems when required.
  • Track and coordinate Flag State / Port State / USCG inspections and ensure timely close-out of findings.
  • Monitor vessel voyage progress to ensure compliance with charter party requirements, terminal requirements, and customer marine assurance expectations.
  • Review and advise on tank cleaning plans and voyage/cargo related operational considerations.
  • Conduct ship visits and, when required, carry out marine audits / navigation audits / cargo & ballast / mooring audits (including pre-vetting checks).
  • Stay updated on relevant industry standards, OCIMF guidelines, and marine operational best practices, support implementation across the fleet.
  • Participate in incident investigations and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master Mariner / Chief Officer (CoC) with strong tanker experience.
  • At least 3 years of shore-based experience in Marine Ops and Vetting.
  • Strong knowledge of OCIMF/SIRE expectations and tanker operational risks.
  • Confident communicator who can influence both ship staff and internal stakeholders.
  • Comfortable with travel for vessel visits and inspections.
