IT Project Manager (1-Year Contract)

Our client is one of the leading ship owner companies. We are now looking for an experienced and proactive Project Manager to be part of their IT department for a 1-year contract. The role will be responsible for managing all aspects of IT related projects from the development of business cases, lead the RFP/RFQ process, conduct workshops for requirements and documentation and review of scope, to the acquisition, development, testing and implementation of information systems. Responsible for the success or failure of projects. Agrees on the scope of the project and resolves conflicts among the various objectives of its stakeholders. 

Reports to: Director, Business Systems & Analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Leads multi-disciplinary teams comprised of IT, business personnel and third-party partners to deliver tangible business value to the organization. 
  • Leads the development of business cases, feasibility studies, charters, requests for information/proposals, etc. to support project requests. Leads system selection process by facilitating selection criteria and priorities, reviewing RFP responses, and organizing system demos. 
  • Leads business users in developing IT system recommendations and implementation strategies. 
  • Develops and monitors project plans, budgets, timelines, scopes, test plans, forecasts, and RAID logs (risks, actions, issues, decisions). 
  • Responsible for committing project resources, via line managers and/or external sources. Assigns tasks to team members and monitors completion. 
  • Responsible for communication of project status, activities, risks and issues to all stakeholders. 
  • Ensures deliverables meet the requirements agreed on by sponsors/steering committee and conforms with IT standards. 
  • Project manages the acquisition/development and implementation of new information systems and enhancements to existing systems, according to departmental standards. 
  • Coordinates all activities related to contract preparation and contract negotiations with vendors for the acquisition of hardware and software. Assists management in review of all contracts. 
  • Responsible for preparing Production Turnover Checklists and Operations Charters as part of transition from project to production support. Carries out post-implementation reviews and makes recommendations on how to further improve operations. 
  • Keeps abreast of changes in relevant IT technology and project methodologies. 
  • Provides input into departmental strategic planning and management communication updates. 
  • Participates on various company committees and task forces where IT representation is required as assigned by the CIO and/or IT Directors. 
  • Supports organizational policies and procedures.

 Requirements

BA/BS in Computer Science or a combination of Technical Diploma and related work experience 

  • 8 years of progressively more responsible IT positions, with at least 4 years recent IT experience related to project management. 
  • At least 5 years as a senior Project Manager. 
  • Proven record of successfully managing large systems projects. 
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience applying project management methodologies, tools and techniques. 
  • Proven competency in facilitation and negotiation techniques. 
  • Proven ability with common project management tools such as MS Project. 
  • Knowledge of systems analysis and system development life cycle emphasizing project management, continuous quality improvement and management information systems techniques. 
  • Experience with relational database development, data modeling, and application development using technology and tools. 
  • Experience with both on-premise and SaaS (3rd party hosted) systems. 
  • Proficiency in the development of business/feasibility studies. 
  • Ability to analyze business issues and recommend innovative solutions. 
  • Business Process Mapping and re-engineering experience is an asset. 
  • Very well organized with excellent interpersonal skills and very effective verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Change management and general business-related experience an asset. 
  • Willing to travel overseas for periods greater than 3 months as required by the project. 
  • Professional project management designation preferred. 
  • Knowledge of Shipping operations is an asset.
