We are looking for an energetic, commercially driven and well-connected Business Development Manager for our client, an established international ship-management company in the maritime sector. The Business Development Manager will be responsible for identifying and securing new ship-management business from shipowners and maritime investors across Asia. This is a hunter-focused role requiring the successful candidate to open doors, build senior-level relationships and convert market opportunities into new management contracts.
The ideal candidate will have a technical or seafaring background, together with at least two to three years of maritime business development experience. He or she should possess a strong network of shipowners, investors and key decision-makers across Asia, with the technical credibility and commercial confidence to promote ship-management solutions effectively.
Job Description
- Identify and pursue new ship-management opportunities with shipowners, investors and other maritime stakeholders across Asia.
- Develop and execute business-development plans to grow the company’s ship-management portfolio.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with shipowners, principals, investors and senior maritime decision-makers.
- Proactively originate leads, secure meetings and create new commercial opportunities through an established industry network.
- Present the company’s ship-management capabilities, technical expertise and value proposition to prospective clients.
- Understand each client’s fleet, operational requirements and commercial priorities, and work with internal teams to develop suitable management proposals.
- Lead business-development discussions from initial engagement through proposal preparation, negotiation and contract award.
- Prepare commercial proposals, presentations, market intelligence and business-development reports.
- Maintain a healthy pipeline of opportunities and provide regular updates on prospects, market developments and competitor activities.
- Represent the company at client meetings, industry events, conferences and networking engagements.
- Work closely with technical, marine, crewing, finance and senior management teams to support new business opportunities.
- Travel regularly across Asia to meet prospective and existing clients.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering, Nautical Studies, Maritime Business or a related discipline.
- A technical, seafaring or ship-management background is strongly preferred.
- At least two to three years of relevant business development, commercial or sales experience within the maritime industry.
- Strong existing network among shipowners, maritime investors and senior decision-makers across Asia.
- Demonstrated ability to originate leads, open new accounts and develop business from the ground up.
- Good understanding of third-party ship-management services and the operational priorities of shipowners.
- Strong commercial acumen, negotiation ability and stakeholder-management skills.
- Confident and persuasive communicator with a professional executive presence.
- Technically inclined and able to hold credible discussions with shipowners, technical leaders and senior management.
- Self-driven, resilient and comfortable working independently in a target-oriented hunter role.
- Able and willing to travel frequently across the region.
