Assistant Manager, Weather Routing

We are looking for a self-motivated and proactive Assistant Manager, Weather Routing to join a global & well-established shipowner. In this role, you will work closely with external weather routing service providers, as well as global and regional operations teams, to optimize weather routing and support the safe and efficient operation of the fleet.

The ideal candidate should have prior sailing background, possess a solid understanding of shipping operations and weather routing principles. Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills, together with the ability to collaborate across multiple functions, will be essential for success in this role.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe and optimized weather routing for the fleet by continuously adjusting vessel routes based on the latest schedules, weather forecasts, and ocean current conditions.
  • Collaborate with global and regional operations teams to coordinate schedule adjustments during adverse weather conditions.
  • Manage relationships with external weather routing service providers, ensuring alignment and consistency between vendor recommendations and operational requirements.
  • Drive operational excellence by researching, evaluating, and implementing innovative technologies and best practices to enhance vessel routing and improve internal workflows.
  • Provide marine expertise and operational support to enhance day-to-day vessel operations, including stowage planning and vessel micro-management, as required.
  • Monitor vessel performance and proactively implement measures to optimize efficiency and minimize operational costs.
  • Perform other ad hoc duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements 

  • Diploma or Degree in Marine Engineering, Maritime Studies or any related field 
  • Minimum 4-5 years of relevant experience in the maritime industry 
  • Prior experience in weather routing or marine related work is preferred
  • Prior sailing background, or experience routing vessels from a fleet centre, is a strong advantage
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex operational issues 
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines while working under pressure 
  • Able to work collaboratively within a cross-cultural team and possess an adaptable mindset for a dynamic work environment
  • Proficiency in AI tools and Google Workspace applications
