We are looking for an Assistant Manager, Container Flow for one of our global container shipping clients. This role will manage container inventory across Asia, coordinate empty-container repositioning and ensure equipment is available to support booking demand. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience in container flow management, equipment control or empty repositioning within a container shipping line.
Responsibilities
- Monitor daily container inventory levels across terminals and inland depots in Asia to maintain healthy stock balances.
- Analyse equipment supply and demand to identify locations with container shortages or surpluses.
- Coordinate the timely release and supply of empty containers to support local sales and booking requirements.
- Plan and coordinate empty-container repositioning from surplus locations to areas with anticipated demand using feeder, main-haul, rail and trucking networks.
- Work closely with Space Control and Vessel Operations to secure the required vessel space for empty-container movements.
- Prepare daily, weekly and monthly reports covering container inventory, vessel utilisation and operational KPIs.
- Support weekly regional flow meetings by tracking repositioning plans, highlighting bottlenecks and communicating upcoming requirements.
- Review empty-positioning costs and identify unnecessary, inefficient or illogical container movements.
- Use stock-simulation and forecasting tools to anticipate equipment shortages and maintain accurate planning parameters.
- Identify operational issues and recommend practical improvements to existing flow-management processes.
- Participate in the testing, implementation and optimisation of new digital tools and automated workflows.
- Coordinate with local offices, regional headquarters and global headquarters to resolve daily operational issues.
- Support the monitoring of container off-hire performance.
- Undertake other operational or strategic assignments as required by the Manager or Head of Department.
Requirements
- Degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related discipline.
- At least three years of relevant experience, preferably in container flow management, equipment control or empty-container repositioning within a container shipping line.
- Good understanding of container inventory management, equipment forecasting and regional repositioning operations.
- Strong analytical, data-management and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work effectively under pressure and respond quickly to operational requirements.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to coordinate across international offices and cultures.
- Detail-oriented, proactive and comfortable taking ownership of operational issues.
- Positive and adaptable team player with a solutions-oriented mindset.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications.
